Correspondence describing Marshall's career, promotions, and battles, including his service during the Napoleonic Wars on H.M.S. Aboukir in the Gulf of Riga and H.M.S. Shamrock at the siege of Glückstadt, Germany, and during the War of 1812 on H.M.S. Java, where he was taken prisoner after its defeat by the American frigate Constitution near San Salvador, El Salvador; together with several clippings (1892-1908) concerning the Marshall estate. Correspondents include Sir Arthur Farquhar, writing from H.M.S. Desiree.
